How to appoint the national statistician?

The Wise son:

The national statistician is the head of the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). The CBS performs statistical analysis about the state and its population. The CBS projects include the fields of health, welfare, education, and economy. Its responsibilities include maintaining and publishing a range of economics, physical, geographical and ecological indices which serves public. State and municipal offices relay on these indices for this planning, development, and follow-up of their activities. The CBS publications are the basis for uniform distribution of capital to the government offices and the public. Therefore, the data prepared by the CBS are necessary for conducting viable modern economy and a democratic society.

The national chief statistician who heads the CBS is therefore a critical figure who is carefully selected and nominated based on qualifications.

The Simple son:

Mmm, to me it is crystal clear, given the CBS’s critical role in planning and capital distribution it is appropriate to appoint a highly qualified national chief statistician, and the appointment process should only be based on professional considerations.  Needless to say that having a respected and independent expert in that position has great national and international importance.

The Wicked son:

Of course, of course, I totally agree with you. But it is just easier to appoint someone who is close to the prime minister, isn't it? I’m just saying, everybody already knows excel and can manipulate data. After all, don’t be naïve, all those indices and statistics are political and should be aligned with the governing message.

He who couldn’t ask:

Guys, I thought about it a lot, and I think I want to apply for the national statistician position. It seems a respectful and good paying appointment, with a lot of influence.  I know I am qualified since I have read all the posts in our blog 😊.
